Review – PreSonus Eris E3.5 Active Media Reference Monitors and Temblor T10 Active Studio Subwoofer

Small room or bedroom studios, nowadays, they are a plenty. PreSonus has recently introduced the Eris E3.5 Active Media Reference Monitors, which are perfect and compact enough to fit just about anywhere. While these monitors are great for gaming, watching TV, and home video productions, they are also great as reference monitors. While I have bigger monitors, these are great to A/B recordings with.

Music is played on all kinds of devices today, from archaic home audio systems, to mobile devices with headphones, as well as vehicles.

I have found that the Eris E3.5 presents a better reference for the smaller systems, including phones and vehicles. They give a very smooth and accurate frequency response to every genre of music. I have used these with recordings that go from EDM to rock, and even country, classical, jazz, and metal. They respond in the same way as my larger monitor setup.

The PreSonus Eris E3.5 has an E3.5” Low frequency driver made of Kevlar and a 1” high frequency tweeter.

The inputs are left/right unbalanced RCA, and left/right 1/4” TRS. There is also a 1/8” aux input on the front, along with 1/8” headphone output. The total output power is 25 watts.

A perfect pairing for the Eris E3.5 is a Temblor active studio subwoofer. PreSonus offers two subwoofers, the Temblor T10 and the Temblor T8. The Temblor T10 is a 10’ active studio subwoofer, and while I tested this with the Eris E3.5 Active Media Reference Monitors is wasn’t exactly the perfect pairing, however, it performed flawlessly with my current 8’ studio reference monitors.

The Temblor T10 is a powerful 170-watt, 250-watt peak subwoofer and will fill the room with beautiful low-end frequencies.

The woofer is a 10” glass composite and front firing. Inputs are balanced XLR and 1/4” TRS, and 2 unbalanced RCA inputs. Outputs are also XLR and TRS with both having option for full range with 80 Hz.

User controls are input gain from -30 db to +6dB, polarity switch, low pass filter control, high pass filter switch, ground lift switch, and a bypass footswitch.

The Temblor T8, which is a better pairing for smaller studio monitors such as the Eris E3.5 Active Media Reference Monitor has many features just like the Temblor T10, with the exception of the RCA input and outputs, ground lift switch, and bypass footswitch. The other main difference with the T10 is wattage at 100RMS, 200W peak, and it is downward firing with an 8” glass composite woofer and a front firing bass reflex port.
