The Ibanez SR870 is the newest entry in the SR Standard line, but don’t let the ‘Standard’ title fool you, as the SR870 is everything above standard!

The bass that was sent for review has the Autumn Leaf Gradation finish and it is extremely eye-catching. The neck on the SR870, as with other basses in the SR series, is very comfortable to play, sleek and smooth. It is very well balanced with no noticeable neck dive when playing while sitting and the weight is just right for long hours of standing and playing, especially on those 4-5 hour gigs. The sound and tone from the combination of tone woods is pleasing to the ear and it would fit great into any genre.

The Ibanez SR870 body is constructed of a flamed maple and walnut top with a mahogany body.

Neck construction is the SR4 5 piece jatoba and walnut with a 24-fret jatoba fingerboard, sporting medium frets and abalone oval inlays. Pickups are the same for neck and bridge positions with the Bartolini BH2 passive pickups topped off with an Ibanez custom 3 band EQ, with a mid frequency switch allowing you to choose between 250Hz, 450Hz, and 750Hz for the mids.

Controls are volume, balance, with boost/cut for bass, mids, and treble. All hardware has a black matte finish.
