Bass Lines: “Slash Chords – Part II”

Published

on

Hello bass players and fans of bass playing!

We will continue this month with the slash chords. Now, that we know what a slash chord is and how it works, we will study some possibilities right into the harmony of a song. It’s pretty simple! The bass player follows the bass movement as indicated in the slash chords. There are cases where the keyboard or guitar will play a chord in root position for several measures and this creates a tendency to a descending bass line. This kind of movement gives the harmony an interesting sound.

Play a bass line starting on the root and descending through a major scale.

Fig. 2 – A descending bass line over a minor chord.

Play a bass line starting on the root and descending through a particular minor scale.
