Melodic and Harmonic Minor Scale

In this issue we break down the melodic and harmonic minor scale.

Hello Basschicks and Bassdudes!

In today’s lesson, we are going to be talking about the melodic and harmonic minor scales. This is a part two to the natural minor scale lesson previously.

Melodic Minor Scale

The melodic minor scale is basically two scales in one. Ascending (going up the scale) notes 1 through 5 are the same as the natural minor scale until you get to the 6th and 7th notes. When these notes are reached they have to be raised one half step each and then our octave (8th note) stays the same.

EXAMPLES

Harmonic Minor Scale

The harmonic minor scale is the natural minor scale with the 7thnote raised a half step. This raise occurs ascending and descending the scale.
