“Freekbass & The Bump Assembly Does P-Funk”, featuring members of Turkuaz, P-Funk, and Bootsy’s Rubber Band…

Freekbass has just announced two special shows with his band, The Bump Assembly, playing songs from the musical catalogue of George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic.

“Freekbass & The Bump Assembly Does P-Funk” will feature the talents of vocalist Sammi Garett (Turkuaz/Freekbass & the Bump Assembly), along with saxophonist, Greg Sanderson (Turkuaz). The Bump Assembly drummer, Rico “Smoov” Lewis, who toured with George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic for over 15 years, will hold down the groove. And the legendary Gary “Mudbone” Cooper, an original member of Bootsy’s Rubber Band, who tours and records extensively with P-Funk, will be joining the spotlight on vocals. Keyboardist, Sky White (The Bump Assembly/Foxy Shazam), vocalist, Reilly Comisar (The Bump Assembly) and guitarist, Nathan Lewis (Ernie Johnson From Detroit) will round out this electric lineup. And rhythm guru, Richie Shakin’ Nagen (P-Funk) will be shaking the spice on this funk-blastic stew.

Two shows have been announced: Friday, February 7th in Columbus, OH at Woodlands Tavern and Saturday, February 8th at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, OH.

Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, Funk is part of our DNA, so paying homage to all of these incredible songs is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time, ” says Freekbass. “And having folks such as funk legend Gary ‘Mudbone’ Cooper onstage will just take it to the next level. Mudbone helped to introduce me to the world of Funk. He brought me in on a session to meet Bootsy, before I was even shaving. My drummer Rico toured with George Clinton for over 15 years, and he and I always jam these songs in soundchecks, so it will be great to play these for an audience. Every musician has a musical calling, and this is definitely one of mine!”

Freekbass says that more “Freekbass & The Bump Assembly Does P-Funk” appearances are planned in different parts of the country in 2020.
