Dean Town Bass Transcription…

This month I have for you the Dean Town Bass Transcription. This is an interpretation of Joe Dart’s bass line for the much-loved single.

It reminds me of what we used to call the “Summerville” sound back in Boston in the late 80s and early 90s.  This gem of a bass line blends Tower of Power-style blistering 16th notes, Jaco-style funk (hence the name Dean Town, which I am assuming is a shout out to Weather Report’s “Teen Town” featuring Jaco Pastorious), and a Boston “DIY” attitude.

Start by playing this piece slowly.  I recommend that you pluck the double stops with two separate fingers and not your thumb.
