Francis Rocco Prestia Jr. “The Legendary Sixteenth Note Groove Master”
(March 7, 1951 – September 29, 2020)
Rocco Prestia, American Bass Player
Band: Tower of Power
Last month the great bass master Rocco Prestia left us, but now he’s grooving in heaven. This month I decided to pay tribute to the legendary bassist. Prestia has always been my biggest influence on the sixteenth note groove.
Below I’m going to share some of my favorite grooves with you.
These patterns are the basics. What I like the most about Rocco’s style is that he always created a number of variations on the main groove.
Prestia has left us an incredible legacy in the concept of groove and in the application of the technique. His concept of jamming and interaction in the rhythm section will always be an example to follow.
GRAB YOUR BASS AND LET’S GROOVE WITH PRESTIA!
