Flor de Toloache, Indestructible…

Featuring Mireya Ramos & Yesi Reyes on Guitarrón

Growing up in El Paso and frequenting Ciudad Juarez, I am very familiar with Mariachi music. These amazing bands combined musicianship with showmanship and performed acoustically. The Guitarrón did the job we would usually expect of our low-end domain.

Grammy Award-winning Flor De Toloache is a unique, all-female Mariachi hailing from New York City with members from diverse cultural backgrounds that span the globe and give a different take on a genre that is usually defined as exclusively Mexican. The band interprets a combination of original and traditional tunes (Thirteen tracks altogether) and even feature John Legend in “Quisiera”.

My favorite track was “La Andariega” as the Guitarrón plays such a prominent part in a tune that highlights a classic Spanish flare.

Solid vocals, tight horns, and exquisite strings (including the Guitarrón) more than justify the excitement this group has been generating for quite a while now. They have definitely been on my radar since I first heard them and I am confident you will add them to your playlist.
