Warmups for 4, 5 & 6-string Bass…

As you know, my main purpose for writing these books is because I am absolutely positive your playing will improve demonstrably with a solid plan in mind. A plan for your practice is IMHO, the best way to begin!

A lot of folks just dive in… They pick up their bass without a goal in mind. I am not against picking up your instrument to have a play, but what I am focusing on here is how do you begin your “official” practice period? As I have said many times before, I believe setting yourself up for success in practicing means having a warmup plan in place and then following thru with a solid and measurable practice plan!

This is not a theory book, although there is theory involved. What you have within these pages are books that will familiarize you with my practice routine.

With a 4-string bass, you have a lot of real estate to cover in the first 5 frets. Starting on the low E and going up 5 frets takes you to a C on the G string. This is the area we are going to concentrate on.

With a 5-string bass, we also have a lot of real estate to cover in the first 6 frets. Starting on the low B and going up 5 frets takes you to a C on the G string. This is the area we are going to concentrate on with occasional trips to the 7th and 8th fret.

And lastly, with a 6-string bass, you have even more real estate to cover in the first 6 frets. Starting on the low B and going up 6 frets takes you to an F on the C string. This is the area we are going to concentrate on.

So as you can see, there are a lot of options to work with.

When you purchase any of these books,  you will find a link to my “secret weapon” that I have been using for most of my bass-playing life. I started doing this particular exercise when I began my first tour when I was still playing a 4-string bass. This is the perfect 30-minute “warmup” before any gig, however many strings you play. It helps to put your hands and ears in sync!

So, click on the links and go for it!  I know this will improve your playing guaranteed!
