Michael Manring Contributes to David Franklin, Passings

“I’ll Never Hear My Father’s Stories Again”, featuring Michael Manring, is the first track off Franklin’s 10th album, Passings, a collection of 15 instrumental soundscapes.

Multi-instrumentalist composer, David Franklin, has released the first track off his forthcoming CD, Passings. The title “I’ll Never Hear My Father’s Stories Again” may sound somber, yet it is anything but melancholic. Poignant, reverent, and exploratory are more fitting descriptions for the debut track, which features Franklin on piano and guitar, and his long-time collaborator Michael Manring on bass guitar. The track is available for streaming worldwide and on Bandcamp today. It is the first track on Passings, releasing February 18 via CDBaby, Amazon, and Bandcamp.

Franklin composed “I’ll Never Hear My Father’s Stories Again” following the death of his own father in 2021. “We are just noting the temporary nature of our existence, and honoring the briefness of the connections we have in our lifetimes,” he says.

A lifelong musician and a licensed psychotherapist, David Franklin has spent more than 45 years exploring musical genres and experimenting in sound, evolving as a musician through rock, folk-pop, avant-garde, and ultimately to contemplative and instrumental music. Franklin believes that music is one of humanity’s most powerful tools for healing.

Passings is a vibrant yet serene expression of these challenging years and is likely to be welcomed by fans of Michael Hedges, Lawrence Blatt, Erik Scott, Nils Frahm, and Olafur Arnolds.

Passings is a follow-up to Franklin’s Top 10-charting albums Songs of Potential Embrace (2017) and Dancing with Shadows (2015), which also featured Michael Manring.
