Album Review: The Black Moods, Into the Night…

One of the great benefits of my job is that I get to listen to a ton of music and discover bands that I have not heard before. The Black Moods turned out to be an unexpected treat with their new album “Into the Night”. Not only has this album blown me away but I can’t stop playing it over and over. These three musicians, Josh Kennedy on vocals and guitar, Chico Diaz on Drums, and Jordan Hoffman on bass have an amazingly huge sound.

This album has a dozen tracks that seriously rock but still have variety so that each is unique; I basically like them all. The arrangements are tight, the vocal harmonies are spot on and the musical balance between the musicians gives each one ample opportunity to shine.

Jordan provides a solid bass foundation but fills in openings with tasty licks and runs. It is like a conversation where his voice is his bass. He has figured out the perfect proportion of groove to “speak-outs” and as I listen repeatedly, I look forward to those musical gems blended in. He especially has the opportunity to cut loose in “Leadin’ Me On” and dazzles us with some very talented chops.

Give “Into the Night” a listen… I am confident you will enjoy it as much as I have.
