In this video lesson, we will cover How to Learn the Notes On the Bass Part 1…

In this first part of the lesson on How to Learn The Notes On The Bass, I am going to teach you one of two ways that I personally consider to be the best way to learn the neck. We all know that there are many ways to learn the notes on the fretboard, but not all of them are the most practical or effective.

I highly recommend the following example, and it is very easy to do as we will see in the exercise below…

Ex. 1 – The note of F played on all the strings and frets on which it appears in the first octave of the bass fretboard.

To start learning the notes on the neck, the ideal is to start with the natural notes, that is: C – D – E – F – G – A – B.

Until you master the natural notes, you should not move on to sharps or flats. You must practice this series of exercises constantly to reinforce learning. Once learned, then you can study the sharps and flats. After mastering this way of learning the first octave of the neck, you can begin to study the second octave of your instrument. When I mention the first octave of the neck, I mean the notes that start open up to the twelfth fret. There the notes of the first octave of the neck are fulfilled. The second octave of the neck starts from the twelfth fret until the fret it ends on the neck.
