The concept in this second part is to learn and practice the notes without the instrument. You are going to create a mental outline of the fretboard.

How do we apply this concept?

Well, you will take three steps into account.

1. You are going to mention a string.
2. You are going to mention a fret.
3. You are going to mention the name of the note that corresponds to it.

As you learn this form, you should always check with the bass if you are correct. The time will come when you will have learned the notes on the fretboard and it will no longer be necessary to verify them on the bass and then it will be a matter of reinforcing what you have learned by practicing this concept without the bass.
