In this video lesson, we will cover Scale-Based (Horizontal) Improvisation…

Improvisation is the art of creating a melody or a rhythmic pattern at the moment.  One of the ways to improvise a groove is to base your bass line on the notes of the underlying scale.  This type of scale-based Improvisation is known as horizontal Improvisation.

Is a linear movement, the horizontal lines of the scale can be ascending ir descending.  You improvise your groove from the available notes of the scale, moving either stepwise or in larger intervals.

This form of improvisation is very common in the vast majority of musical styles. It is the basis for a large percentage of the solos and grooves you hear.
