New Album: Marcelo Yakko, Yakkosonics
Yakkosonics is a new album by Argentine bassist Marcelo Yakko, an interesting instrumental work with 7 original songs.
Working with the rest of the guest musicians was through distance. Once Yakko had composed the demos, a group was created on social networks to exchange opinions, musical arrangements and work was done song by song until reaching the final objective, the recording mix and mixing of the album.
Musical style: this album contains influences from funk, rock, metal and progressive rock, Spanish music such as flamenco, etc., a true fusion of styles.
The songs:
“Entrando al laberinto”- (Entering the labyrinth) A very beautiful and cinematic short introduction, with a sound flavor of the Dream Theater intro, the main melody will be reiterated in a conceptual way in the last track called “Saliendo del laberinto”
“Alma de 8 bits”- (8-bit Soul): a song that pays tribute to the era of 8 and 16-bit arcade games, that world that many of us have lived when it was not nostalgia and that was our present (musically it seems like a mix between a Dragon Ball song and an Iron Maiden song,
very fun to play!
“Rebelión animal” -(Animal rebellion): is a song that explodes on the progressive metal funk side, with a lot of force and rhythm… it combines the furious slap of my bass with interesting sound changes of keyboards and guitars. (it is a call to attention to all those people who even today continue to mistreat animals).
“El escape de Ripley”- (Ripley’s Escape): It is another song in the Liquid Tensión Experiment style, where there is an overwhelmingly suffocating atmosphere on a musical level, and tries to place the listener in the character of Ripley (from the Alien movies) escaping from the xenomorph.
” El mejor día es hoy”-(The best day is today):
It is a more peaceful and calm song, very melodious where I use a 5 bass for the bases and a fretless to sing the melody which is also beautifully accompanied by guitars and keyboards, the phrase for me has had a very special meaning for several years (never wait for tomorrow and enjoy minute by minute the day-to-day), be grateful for what we have today.
“Misión de vida”-(Mission of life): It is the most progressive rock song, with a hint of hard rock, it has a beautiful rock-heroic air and speaks, instrumentally, of the path that life takes to be born… in all its senses…
“Saliendo del laberinto”- ( Leaving the labyrinth)
It is the last track of the work and has the same leitmotif as the intro, but this song is much longer and takes us on an instrumental adventure where one imagines the paths that we take day by day to be able to overcome our obstacles, our sadness, our fears… although the songs are instrumental, I find it interesting to tell the listener what the idea with which each song was built. In its central part there is a very nice message from the Spanish writer and poet Antonio Gala, where you can hear his voice and his message…
Alex Suarez (guitars), Nicolas Fernandez Mac Loughlin (drums) Juan Martin Hairabedian (drums), Martin Zamorano (drums) John Rolls (keyboards) Fredy De Seta (mix mastering and playing drums on the last track).
The sound:
I USE MY FENDER JAPAN WITH EMG PJ MODEL MICS, a Yamaha TRBX305 5 bass, AND A Fender FRETLESS BASS FOR “THE BEST DAY IS TODAY” and I usually record straight to the console and then process my bass with compressors, eqs, and some other effects in post-recording, many times I also send Fredy the raw bass and he finds the sound for it.
