With every release, Pops sharpens her own lane and style. The innovative Brazilian-born bassist, producer, and composer follows her celebrated singles “Misunderstood,” “Deep Thoughts,” and “Funk Karma” with her rawest, funkiest cut yet: Drive Complaining.

This is a different kind of funk. Pops delivers a darker and emotionally rich take rooted in funk, distorted synths, textured guitars, and a raw melodic pulse driven entirely by her signature bass voice. The track cuts through the noise with a sound that leans into discomfort, honesty, and sonic unpredictability.

“It’s about letting emotion spill in everyday moments, like driving. The bass sounds and lines felt like someone angry just complaining about random stuff.” Pops says.

Known for her punchy, funk-infused bass tone and devotion to pocket, Pops continues to bend genres and flip traditional structures on their head. Her sound reflects a producer and artist evolving constantly, centered around her own voice.

On Drive Complaining, she’s joined by Stanley Randolph (Stevie Wonder) on drums and longtime collaborator and one of the most acclaimed guitar players of this generation, Artur Menezes on guitar.

“My imperfections, struggles, and breakthroughs are what shape my sound. That’s what makes it mine.”

Live on Stage

Pops kicks off her solo chapter with purpose, headlining The Baked Potato in Los Angeles on May 14, a landmark that’s hosted generations of iconic musicians. It’s the ideal space for Pops’ immersive debut: sound, visuals, strong arrangements, and high-level musicianship.

The band features Noa Kahn on drums and arrangements, Artur Menezes on guitar, Curtis Crump on keys and sax, and Laila Annelle on vocals. Special guests include Taylor Graves, Astyn Turr, Justin Brown, and Randy Emata, each of them brought to life the record, and now bring it to the stage.

Then it’s Brazil. Blue Note Rio on June 4 and Blue Note São Paulo on June 11. Starting a solo run on some of the most respected stages in the world is a milestone and a statement. Very special guests and musicians will be joining her on the stages in South America. If you’re around, don’t miss it.

“I’m shaping my future while trusting where the process takes me. I’m committed to evolving and to the purpose behind it all.”

“Drive Complaining” is available now on all streaming platforms.
