Duende Libre announces new album, Invocation – a transformative reflection on the vulnerability, universality, and resilience of the human condition, featuring Farko Dosumov on Electric Bass.

Seattle-based jazz trio DUENDE LIBRE has announced the release of “Ahmadish” on May 24th, the first single/video from their forthcoming album Invocation, which will be available on streaming platforms and in physical format on June 7, 2025.

Ahmadish is an infectious, high-octane jazz fusion track in the spirit of Weather Report that features Fender Rhodes, electric bass, drums, and a formidable arsenal of percussion instruments including windchimes, shakers, wood blocks, whistles, shekere, and a Brazilian instrument called the reco-reco (pronounced ““HEH-koo HEH-koo”). The name “Ahmadish” is a nod to the classic 1970 trio album The Awakening by late NEA Jazz Master Ahmad Jamal (1930-2023). Bandleader and composer Alex Chadsey cites the album’s influence in his formative years and notes that it has been sampled by hip-hop artists such as Nas and Common, solidifying its place not only within the jazz canon but also as part of the broader cultural landscape. One of many tributes on Duende Libre’s latest album, Invocation, “Ahmadish,” pays homage to Jamal and the evolution of his signature style, a style infused with the rare ability to transcend the jazz idiom.
