JAZZ IMPROVISATION WITH ANDREA FASCETTI – BEBOP PART

HI MY “BASS” FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES!

HOW ARE YOU? I HOPE YOU’RE OK, BECAUSE TODAY WE WILL DO A VERY INTENSIVE LESSON! SO IT’S TIME FOR BEBOP LESSON NUMBER 6!

I RECEIVED SOME INTERESTING EMAILS FROM SOME STUDENTS THAT ASKED ME WHY I INSIST WITH BEBOP. I REPEAT MY IDEA OVER AND OVER: BEBOP IS A STRONG BASIS FOR MODERN IMPROVISATION. I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO LISTEN TO GREAT BASS PLAYERS AND PLEASE CHECK WHAT KIND OF MUSICAL LANGUAGE THEY USE IN SOLOS. YOU’LL NOTICE THAT MOSTLY THEY USE BEBOP OR TECNIQUES AND STRUCTURES TAKEN FROM BEBOP.

OK! NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE USUAL HOMEWORK ASSIGMENT:

1) RETURN TO DONNALEE. IN THE LAST LESSON WE STUDIED ALL 32 SONG BARS, SO REPEAT THE 32 BARS WE DID AND SING ALONG WHILE YOU’RE PRACTING!

2) WRITE A COMPLETE 32 BAR SOLO USING THE STYLE YOU FOUND IN DONNALEE, THEN STUDY IT THE VERY SLOW TEMPO (WITHOUT A METRONOME). WHEN YOU HAVE IT “UNDER YOUR FINGERS” YOU CAN PLAY IT VERY FAST AND USE A DRUM MACHINE OR A METRONOME IF YOU WANT.

I KNOW THAT PROBABLY YOU’LL NOT LIKE YOUR SOLO, BUT IF YOU COMTINUE TO WRITE SOLOS, YOU WILL FIND YOUR STYLE AND YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY; WRITING MUSIC IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF MUSICAL KNOWLEDGE.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GOOD PRACTICE TIME.

SEE YOU SOON

ANDREA
