Esperanza Spalding featured performer on the 84th Academy Awards… Bassist/composer/vocalist Esperanza Spalding was a featured performer on the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26, 2012. She sang a moving rendition of “What a Wonderful World” as a tribute to those who have passed away, including Whitney Houston, Steve Jobs and Elizabeth Taylor. MTV raved, “It was a performance that allowed millions to see what Grammy voters had already seen in her last year.” The ceremony took place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California and was televised live on ABC TV.

Spalding also played bass for the majority of the ceremony with the orchestra, except during her solo appearance in the balcony to perform “Minor Swing.”
