World-renowned electric bassist Mark Egan presents his latest release, Direction Home, his eighth album.
With an overall sound similar to Jaco Pastorius and Pat Metheny, Egan delivers an intriguing volume by blending captivating grooves with sophisticated improvisations, creating an uplifting experience that will leave jazz enthusiasts and jamband lovers elated.
“I really enjoy the openness of this trio and the freedom that it gives me to explore my instrument and contribute to the collective musical statement. Both Danny and Mitchel are master improvisers and they continue to inspire me. Direction Home picks up where my last release, About Now, left off,” says Egan. Egan picked up the electric bass at 16-years-old and studied under influential jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius. Shortly afer his studies with Pastorius, Egan signed on as a founding member of the Pat Metheney Group from 1977-80. Since then, Egan has recorded hundreds of tracks and has performed with renowned musicians such as Sting, Joan Osborne, Arcadia, John Mcglaughlin, and Sophie B. Hawkins. His music has also appeared in movies and on television, including You’ve Got Mail, Aladdin, The Color of Money, and NBC Sports.
Direction Home features an all-star ensemble consisting of Grammy Award-winning drummer Danny Gottlieb, world-famous pianist Mitchel Forman and bassist/producer Mark Egan. The album was recorded by Grammy Award-winning engineer Phil Magnotti and mastered by Fred Kervorkian in New York City.
Direction Home will be released on Egan’s Wavetone Records label.
