Bass Transcription – Old Flames New Names by Mark Chestnut

Old Flames New Names” by Mark Chestnut is an example of a country tune that encorporates elements of western swing, old time country, and rock n’ roll in a light hearted and humorous story.  The bass playing throughout is tasteful and stellar.  It appears to be played on a 5 String, though the string appears to only be needed once in the tune for a low B drum kick.  The tunes tension and release comes in the form of two step bass lines followed by double time swing lines.  Check out the bass solo break down near the end where Mixolydian is employed with descending thirds during the the E chord!  A winner.
