There are a select few bassists that play, in my opinion, at a level way above the rest of the pack and Michael Manring is one of those I would put on my very shortlist.
Michael is a solid working bassist but his most exquisite trait is his solo work. I had the fortunate opportunity to see Michael perform live in Portland, OR about a decade ago and I have never seen anyone do what he does.
You can imagine how excited I was to see that he was releasing a new Solo album this last spring and gave myself the treat of listening to it. (See Music on our Radar)
Michaels’ new release was a good motivator for us to finally get together, via Skype, and have a nice conversation.
