Beneath The Bassline – Bass Greats Assemble For New Documentary
Directed by Nick Wells, Beneath The Bassline brings together some of the finest bass players on the planet.
Travelling to Fodera Guitars in Brooklyn, Sadowsky Guitars in Long Island City and Aguilar Amplification in Manhattan’s Soho district – featuring interviews with the likes of Will Lee, Richard Bona, Billy Sheehan, Bootsy Collins, Duff McKagan, Felix Pastorius, Mark King, Lee Sklar, John Patitucci, Larry Graham, Marcus Miller, Robert Trujillo, Nathan East, Stanley Clarke and many others, it’s packed with never-before-told stories and anecdotes as well as behind-the-scenes footage and jam sessions.
“This is a film for anyone who loves the bass guitar,” said Director, Nick Wells. “We wanted to get to grips with what really makes these guys tick, find out how they evolved their respective sounds and styles, and get a glimpse into their world in a way that I don’t think any other documentary has.”
The film is set to premiere at this year’s Doc N’ Roll Film Festival on November 4th at Picturehouse Central, London.
Tickets are available from www.docnrollfestival.com.
Look out for further screenings and a global release on DVD and digital HD later this year.

Review: CrystalBright Rombo Picks
CrystalBright Rombo Picks
PR SamplePlaying bass with a pick is still a touchy subject in our community. I believe you should be able to use whatever you need to get your sound. Even though I mostly play with my fingers, I like to check out innovative new picks that might have something new to offer, sonically speaking.
Judith and Carlos from Rombo recently contacted me about a new material called CrystalBright that they have been researching for the last 12 months and offered to send some prototype picks. After trying them out, I put together this video with my findings.

Working-Class Zeros: Episode #2 – Financial Elements of Working Musicians
“These stories from the front are with real-life, day-to-day musicians who deal with work life and gigging and how they make it work out. Each month, topics may include… the kind of gigs you get, the money, dealing with less-than-ideal rooms, as well as the gear you need to get the job done… and the list goes on from there.” – Steve the Bass Guy and Shawn Cav
