Yves Carbonne

Yves Carbonne was born may 23, 1967 in Auch (Gers - south of France), and grew up close to Bordeaux.  His parents were not musicians, but gave him piano lessons when he was 7. Carbonne has been always attracted to low sounds. As he watched his older brother playing guitar, he wanted to play with him.  As a result, he began playing electric bass at 13, and upright at 15.  He was at first an autodidact, then he took lessons with Alain Caron and Dominique Di Piazza. Carbonne has been a professional musician since the age of 17.  Some of his first influences were Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorius and John Coltrane. As a pioneer in electric bass development, in 2002 Carbonne started tuning his bass to one octave below standard, and called this new instrument "sub-bass".  When tuning his ERBS to "sub-bass", this would translate as follows:  8 & 10 sub-basses have a low E one octave below the low E on a standard 4 string bass, and his 12 string sub-bass has a low B one octave below low B on a 5 string or 6 string standard bass.  Carbonne is currently the only bassist in the world who plays 10 and 12 string fretless sub-basses.  These models, Legend X YC and Legend XII YC, were built by master luthier from Barcelona, Jerzy Drozd.  The 12 uses a new Labella B string (tuned at 15,4 hertz)! Carbonne's first CD is called "Seven Waves".  It is a bass & voice project, with singer Guillaume Eyango.  This project also includes: Michael Manring, US solo bassist, Roger Biwandu, drums (Joe Zawinul, Salif Keita), Laurent Maur, harmonica and Antony Breyer, drums. "Seven Waves" is an original mix of soul, jazz, funk and new age, with an unusual use of bass and sub-bass guitars.  "Seven Waves" is a very melodic album, and enjoyable for music lovers of all types, not just musicians. "The most important thing for me in music is to transmit your emotions, not just your ability to play an instrument",  says Carbonne. Carbonne also recorded a bass trio album in 2005 with Michael Manring and Dominique Di Piazza, titled  "Carbonne – Di Piazza - Manring". Carbonne is available in the following capacities: - Solo artist - Session bassist and sub-bassist - Composer - Arranger - Improviser - Master class instructor Carbonne has played with (not limited to): Patrick Amar, Patrick Auzier, Claude Barthelemy, Jean Baudin, Camélia Ben Naceur, Roger Biwandu, Mao Blanc, Jean Bonal, Bruno Bongarçon, Freddy Bournane, Francis Bourrec, Bernard Branquard, Antony Breyer, Uri Caine, Christopher "C3" Cardone, Bertrand Cantat, Gregory Bruce Campbell, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Alain Caron, Edo Castro, Denis Charolles, Mickey Chauviere, Bruno Chevillon, Manu Codjia, François Corneloup, Larry Corryel, Brenda Della Valle, Sébastien Demeaux, Stephane Deriau Reine, Jacques Di Donato, Dominique Di Piazza, Philippe Drouillard, Jean-Marie Ecay, Thierry Eliez, Guillaume Eyango, Hadrien Feraud, Frédéric Favarel, Glenn Ferris, Nicolas Filiatreau, Lionel Fortin, Arnaud Fusté, Andrew Gouche, Denis Gouzil, Lisbeth  Guldbaek, Fabien Haimovici, Richard Hertel, Antoine Hervé, Marielle et Gaëlle Hervé, Daniel Humair, Olivier Hutman, Jauqo III X, Frédéric Jacquemin, Jef Lee Johnson, Sylvain Kassap, Dave Kikoski, György Kurtag, Francis Lassus, Didier Lelouch, Paco El Lobo, Yoan Loustalot, Bernard Lubat, Sylvain Luc, Michel et Vincent Macias, Francis Marmande, Christian Martinez, Laurent Maur, Bernard Maury, Stew McKinsey, Darren Michaels, André Minvielle, Jean-Yves Moka, Franck Monnet, Christophe Monniot, Serge Moulinier, Hermeto Pascoal, Scott Pazera, Nazaré Pereira, Michel Portal, Guillermo Roatta, Tony Rabeson, Manu Riquier, Yves Robert, Laurent Robin, Yoan Scheidt, Archie Schepp, Rémi Sciuto, Louis Sclavis, Henry Texier, François Thuillier, Rhonny  Vantat, Danny Vasnier, Virginia Vee, Didier Verna, Fabrice Viera, Christian Vieussens, Trip Wamsley, Stokley Williams, Jerome Wolf.
